THEA2235: Introduction to Shakespeare

As the name suggests, this course is intended as an introduction to the study of Shakespeare for both majors and non-majors. It will focus primarily on five of his plays which are most typically taught in Secondary and postsecondary education. Although one of Shakespeare’s comedies will be included, particular emphasis will be placed upon four of his major tragedies. Students will study both traditional and contemporary adaptations of 
877 Revised 9/9/2020 the plays. This course will approach Shakespeare as a combination of both literature and drama (performance), thus making the material relevant to students of both Theatre and English.
