Workforce Development

The Workforce Development of New Mexico Junior College is a resource specializing in continuing education, facility rental, instrumentation and controls, oil and gas technology, transportation training, and workforce training. We also house the New Horizons Foundation and Small Business Development Center.

In our 20,000 square foot training facility, we host a wide variety of trainings and events. We can also design a training to come to you. Whatever your training needs are, the Workforce Development division of NMJC welcomes the opportunity to partner with you to provide it.

These are not college credit offerings.

Courses

CDL

  • Classroom Basic Street Driving Operation of a Tractor Trailer
  • Skills Test with Certified CDL Examiner
  • The CDL Skills Test is a three part test consisting of Vehicle Inspection, Basic Control Skills, and Driving (Road Test).

Ceramics

  • The course will begin its work in clay with the making of hand-built objects and will progress to instruction on the potter's wheel.

Clinical Medical Assistant

  • The Clinical Medical Assisting program is designed to prepare students to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings.
  • Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other related tasks

Crude Oil Economics

  • Provides information to help you understand the basic economics associated with crude oil. 
  • If you ever wondered how the price of oil is determined or wanted to better understand and forecast the boom/bust cycles we experience in this industry, this class will answer many of your questions.
  •  This course is taught by an experienced industry professional with questions encouraged throughout the class

DWI

12 Hour court ordered, licensed, and approved by New Mexico Traffic Safety Division Classes meet for four hours three evenings English meets 3 Thursdays, dates TBA Spanish meets 3 Tuesdays, dates TB

Defensive Driving

Licensed and approved by New Mexico Traffic Safety Division Course accepted by the courts for citations received English and Spanish classes available

Dental Assisting

  • Introduction to the dental office and history of dentistry and dental assisting
  •  Legal aspects of dentistry including policies and guidelines
  • Introductory oral anatomy, dental operatory, and dental equipment
  • Introductory tooth structure including primary and permanent teeth
  •  The oral cavity and related structures
  •  Dental hand-pieces, sterilization, and other areas

Drone Operations: Basic Level

It is designed for those with little or no experience to learn the rules and regulations and gain experience and confidence with hands-on drone operation.  This course is designed with 75% of the day focused on flying. 

Drone Regulations: Part 107

  • This is a one-day class for adults to learn the information required to pass the FAA’s Remote Pilot Exam.
  • A Remote Pilot license is required for anyone operating a sUAS in their business or for any type of compensation. 
  • The Remote Pilot’s written exam is similar to that required to obtain a private pilot license.

EMT Advance

  • This course builds on the knowledge learned in the EMT-B course building on assessment of sick and injured patients.
  • Students will learn advanced treatment of patients.
  • This course meets or exceeds the National EMS Education Standards for the AEMT and New Mexico Scope of Practice for the EMT-Intermediate.

EMT Basic

  • Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care;
  • Administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient’s condition;
  • Lift, move, position and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury;
  • Perform safely and effectively the expectations of the job description

Lease Pumper

  • Lease Pumper course combines classroom and on- site training in basic Lease Operator responsibilities and skills.
  • This course is designed to provide training in place of experience for those seeking an entry level position as a Lease Operator

  • This program consists of classroom training on the New Mexico Junior College campus and field training at the NMJC Lineman Training Ground.  Instructors include:  experienced linemen, safety professionals, and electrical instructors.

Math 4 the Oilfield

  • six-hour course designed to help current and future oilfield workers understand the simple but very unique calculations used every day in the oil and gas industry

Microsoft Office Training

  • We partner with Cloud Training Services (CTS) to teach all of our MS Office trainings.
  •  Darla Cloud has been teaching computer classes since 1989. She has earned the Microsoft Office Expert Certification, a certification awarded by Microsoft acknowledging her expertise in Microsoft products. Darla is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Technical Trainer. In addition to Darla’s years of teaching, she has over seven years of accounting experience. Darla’s accounting experience and love of teaching help make her an excellent trainer. She has spent years learning tips, tricks and shortcuts that she will pass on during her classes.

Pharmacy Technician

  • Pharmacy calculations

Serv Safe: Managers

The New Mexico Restaurant Association requires that the "person in charge” should be trained in the same requirements as found in the food production manager’s course". This new requirement covers restaurants, bars, hotels, food trucks/carts, and other establishments that are licensed by the state.

TEEX

Varies fron ½ day – 4 days

Warm Water Therapy

This is a physical education activity course conducted in an aquatic environment. It will consist of aerobic as well as toning exercises. Use of various types of water equipment may be used in this class.

Well Control

  • This WellSharp course addresses topics such as risk awareness and management, well control principles and calculations, barriers, influx fundamentals, gas characteristics, fluids, wellbore equipment, well control risks in wireline operations, pressure control equipment; snubbing equipment, coiled tubing operations, well kill in preparation for well intervention, testing, well control drill, workover operational processes of well control and related policies.
